Penistone Fish & Chips: Reviews & Ratings

You get a choice of small or large fish, strangly no medium. However although the small fish is quite small you get a decent amount of chips and it was all very tasty, in fact one of the best tasting bits of fish I have had anywhere. I don't live in the area I was visiting a friend, but if I go there again I will go for large fish. Delicious and excellent value at £7.50.

Friendly welcoming staff. Good range of vegetarian options available. We got some chips to accompany our car picnic to warm us up from the cold rain, then came back for the easter special battered creme eggs. Both were fair priced and delicious. Will be coming back to try more.

Great fish and chips, you can't go wrong with it. I had a large fish and chips with a small curry pot and a fish cake for 14 quid at a great price and great taste I highly recommend it.

Penistone Fish & Chips, located in the heart of Penistone on Church Street, stands out as a destination for classic British comfort food done right. This humble eatery has earned praise not only for its traditional battered fish and crispy chips but also for its welcoming atmosphere and thoughtful menu variety, including vegetarian options that cater to a wider audience.

One of the most notable highlights here is the choice of fish portions—small or large—offered at excellent value. Patrons like Steve Barlow celebrate the flavorful quality of the fish, describing it as some of the best they’ve tasted, while appreciating the generous hand-cut chips that accompany the meal. The absence of a medium portion is an interesting quirk, but it doesn’t detract from the overall satisfaction. Whether you're after a quick bite or a more substantial meal, the freshness and taste shine through.

The menu diversity extends beyond the classics; Easter specials such as battered crème eggs and vegetarian selections demonstrate a creative approach to traditional fish and chip fare. Michael Dean’s experience highlights the friendly service and the perfect comfort food for a chilly day, showing that Penistone Fish & Chips caters to more than just typical fry-up cravings.

Value and quality are well balanced. For example, a meal composed of a large fish, chips, curry pot, and fish cake can be had at a reasonable price without compromising on flavor, as olafs sklauda attests. The combination of crispy batter, tender fish, and well-seasoned sides leaves a lasting impression. The care taken in preparation and ingredient selection resonates in every bite.

Overall, Penistone Fish & Chips captures the essence of classic British fish and chips with a friendly, local charm. Its menu is thoughtfully crafted to satisfy traditionalists and adventurous palates alike. If you find yourself in Sheffield, this spot merits a visit for hearty, flavorful meals that deliver both taste and comforting familiarity.
